C45Te, welcome to Train Spotting World

If this is the first time you've used a wiki you may have a few questions. Most of the answers are obvious. To learn to edit, why not just dive in? At the foot of the editing window there is a help link. This opens in a new window and gives you a good overview of wiki syntax and stuff.

If you would like some introductory help, look at being adopted by an experienced user

There are very few rules here. The best summary is:

  • Respect other people's Copyright
  • Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you
  • Do no harm

This is not an encyclopedia. Pages here do not need to comply with encyclopaedic notions or citations or neutrality. Just dive in and start.

It's always worth having a look at Station announcements every so often, too.

One of the first things you might want to do is to place {{talktome}} at the top of your talk page (this page) above this welcome message. Taking heed of what it says will make it much easier for you to follow discussions on talk pages.

And while you browse the site, and especially when you've created something truly worthwhile, why not Digg and also tag on del.icio.us – the tools are in the left hand menu. The more Diggs (etc) we have the better, because Diggs and del.icio.us links add to our findability. The best way to find out about them is to click on the tool. Each is different and each gives you the chance to "rate" any article here. Or anywhere else come to that!

Best yet you have a Spotting World Blog if you want it. Have a look at your User page. There is a link to let you create your blog. This is part of what Spotting World does for you. Or just go to blogs.spottingworld.com. You can use your blog for any lawful purpose. It's yours to do with as you like. Anyone can read your blog once you create it, but only you can write to it.

There is also a live chat room - see the left hand menu

Is Fan Fiction your thing? Check out our Fan Fiction area for further information.

If you need help with anything, try the FAQs or the Help pages, or pop over to the Station Cafe, and ask there.

And don't forget to tell your friends about us!

For the latest goings on, take a look at the current issue of our newsletter, The Transport Journal here. You can subscribe for the newsletter to be delivered to your user talk page here.

Welcome to TSW, C45Te! My name is DalekX, or just X for short.
I was just wondering, what do you think of the Talyllyn and Snowdon Railways? Do you like them, or not?
Thnaks! --DalekX 22:16, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Fanfic

Hi there, are you the user who edits my fanfic stuff? If so, can you ask me first? I'm not meaning to be rude. --S.C.Rf 18:55, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, a few comments:
SCRuffey, this is a wiki, anyone can edit anything they like. It's not your content - if you don't want it edited, dont submit it. With this attitude, you may get yourself banned from editing, or worse...
C45Te, please excuse SCRuffey. Hes a young member, and may no understand the way wikis work. You can edit anything you want, regardless of who wrote it, but if there major edits, do attempt to achieve consensus on the article's talk page first, or the talk page of the main editor.
Any problems guys, please message me (on or off wiki)
Thanks,
--BG7 20:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
I've just left a similar message at Talk:FanFic:Potential Plotlines (Thomas & Friends).
This will be an interesting one to work out, as it is a bit of a clash of cultures: the FanFic is quite 'personal' content, yet a wiki is, by definition, anything but! I suggest a cafe discussion is started...

Sorry

Sorry for shouting at you. I didn't mean it, I just was a bit angry when I saw the editing on my movie submit. Please forgive me. --S.C.Rf 14:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Images...

Hello C45Te,

Could I possibly ask you to add links of the images that you have used on your Thomas Game Cover, and also any copyright permissions you have (whatever is on the image's page). This is to stop us getting into legal problems, as the images may be copyrighted, and we may be in violation of it or a Fair-Use Rationale.

THanks,

OK! C45Te 17:03, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

All present and correct! No problems C45Te 17:09, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Your application for adminship

I'm sorry to be the bearer of news that you did not want to hear, but your application this time has been unsuccessful. I closed it a day early after much thought. Please do not be discouraged and do feel free to apply again in a few months after considering what happened this time. Tim Trent Talk to me 13:25, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Profanities etc

I have taken the unusual step of rendering some of your user page not to display. I feel that the profanities you have used there are out of keeping with the site, and I would very much prefer it if you edited the page to remove them completely.

I include in this words with "*" characters in them. The meaning is obvious.

While there are no words in the language that offend me I am concerned that they might offend others who come here. This is a site that needs to be "Family Safe".

I will welcome your comments, please. I will not accept your re-adding the profanities. Should that happen I will take a unilateral decision and block you from editing. Tim Trent Talk to me 22:49, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to echo what Tim said above. When I saw your content I thought that it was not really what we wanted here -- we're quite happy for you to say what you don't like, but there is no need to upset people in the way that you say or present it. You must consider that we may have some quite young visitors to the site and we want to encourage them to return.

Profanities in FanFic:Great western adventures and elsewhere

I have spent quite a wasted time removing profanities which in this article come from you. The wiki audit trail will show, if I care to look, whether others came from you also.

I have done some housekeeping to clean this up.

I want you to understand something very clearly: Profanities will not be tolerated here at all, neither explicitly nor with masking characters. They will not remain. They are not funny, nor clever. They upset people.

I will, from time to time, patrol your edits, old and new. If I find more profanities, including ones I have missed in cleaning up your mess, any time after a week today I will block you from editing for a period of time of my choice. If any new ones arri ve at any time I will block you as soon as I see them.

Please now take action and clear out the profanities you have added to our wiki.

Tim Trent Talk to me 16:35, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for cleaning up your user page. Please now check any other pages where you may have left these landmines. Tim Trent Talk to me 22:11, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I am angry that I decided to put Profanities on the pages. Well they are cleared up now. Thanks. C45Te 18:00, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you/ Tim Trent Talk to me 18:34, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I am patrolling your edits

Since I have seen that you are trying, I will not, at THIS moment, block you for this diff, but I can tell you that "freaking" and "dam" and similar words are outside the spirit of the removal of profanities.

Please correct this at once.

Tim Trent Talk to me 18:42, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Spellchecker

Since spelling is not your strong suit, please adopt a spellchecker. Perhaps the Firefox browser which has a spellchecker extension would help you. Tim Trent Talk to me 21:48, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Well I don't have Firefox Im afraid. I will check my edits to see if I errored. Ok? C45Te 16:44, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Inappropriate language

Thank you for keeping your eye out for inappropriate language being added; however, the edit summary you used for this diff is not appropriate either. A simple "please avoid profanities" would have been enough. Besides, for this particular series I can quite believe that the titles would include such words...

EdJogg 09:24, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

It was nothing! I noticed there was a @ so I thought that was profanitry. C45Te 15:55, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
