[edit] First re-vamp

Well, It's Finally Happened...

Train Spotting World has had a re-launched main page, and now looks a lot more organised. The time was also taken to clear the talk page!

The new main page is edited through templates, a table of which will appear here soon. In the meantime, please continue to improve the Main Page. It will look really good when everyone gets working on it!

Plus, if you want to vote for a selected video, add it below, under "Video noms".

Thanks!

[edit] Video Noms

Please add the link of the video below...

Ok...lets get the ball rolling...DMU Racing...Dmu Racing at the EVR - 101 2-car and 122 Bubble...Hmm...!Bluegoblin7 23:06, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

No, this is proper DMU racing!!
Curious - that Bubblecar is a hybrid: it has a large headcode box at one end (Cl 121) and a small one at the other (Cl 122)!!
EdJogg 01:41, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Hmm... Yes that is a better one. And not only does the Bubble have diff headcode boxes, it also has whiskers at one end, and warning panels at the other, and they greens don't match, plus it has the middle (3rd) headlight, applied only in recent years! Bluegoblin7 10:02, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

This section is to be moved to Video Vault, which is more suitable for the discussion Bluegoblin7 21:06, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Erroneous sprotected2

(At least) One of the numerous templates used to build the main page is including the {{sprotected2}} template, resulting in the Main Page being included in both Protected and Semi-protected cats. Please investigate and resolve.

[edit] Second re-vamp

There are some good points to this new Main Page layout, particularly losing all those flickr links, but I had assumed this new layout would be added UNDERNEATH the Portal List that was there at the top. In terms of drawing people into the site I am sure that would be far more attractive/effective than the rather bizarre 'hotpicks' section which highlights a few random articles. I may try adding it back in and seeing what it looks like.

EdJogg 18:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

OK, 'done'. The previous Portal box has been re-instated, with the (temporary?) addition of the Thomas Portal, which was the only thing un-duplicated by the links below the box. I have also removed the redundancy in the header bar and highlighted the purpose of the Station Cafe. Finally, the 'Intro' section has been re-worded a bit - especially to avoid using the word 'hotpicks'.
There are probably too many 'main categories' masquerading as portals just now. I suspect that by gathering a few to create a 'resources' portal and a 'spotters' portal, for example, may allow certainly links to be demoted. However, we want to make sure new visitors are aware of the breadth of coverage here (even if the depth is somewhat lacking!)

And please can we sample the blue from the TSW logo and use that? (complex and anywhere from #365182 to #9BABCB) And get those boxes to include the text rather tan look passing strange above them? Tim Trent Talk to me 00:35, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ship Spotting World

As we have fictional trains here, does it mean that at SSW we'll use TUGS and Theodore Tugboat? --S.C.Rf 10:09, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Certainly. When we "launch" it! Tim Trent Talk to me 11:44, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
OK --S.C.Rf 18:40, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Do people 'do' ship spotting? EdJogg 23:47, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
I have absolutely no idea, but actually I think SSW should be the next wiki to come - I know that our lone user at Planes would like to see it for the Aircraft Carrier articles!
Thanks,

WARNING Wiki-overlaps!! (Aircraft carrier, Train ferry, ...)
More seriously, shouldn't we determine that there is a 'market' for such a wiki before launching it?
EdJogg 00:24, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Wiki overlaps are good aren't they? As we can effectively use IW links?
I think that the consensus for an SSW is there, more than a Truck (I personally would prefer Ship, but I think Truck will be useful!), so I suppose the easiest way will be to either hold a vote or if users who want SSW get an x amount of support and users who want TSW2 get x amount of support.
Either way though, I doubt we'll get another wiki anytime soon, as Planes has only just really begun! (Although Tim might be able to say otherwise!)
Thanks,
