New Hope and Ivyland Railroad

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

The New Hope and Ivyland Railroad is a tourist railroad in Pennsylvania, USA, which runs regularly scheduled steam- and diesel-powered excursions from New Hope to Lahaska, and return. Passengers for regular excursion trains may board either at New Hope or at Lahaska Station, (1 mile east of U.S. Route 202 on Street Road, Lahaska, PA). Passengers may get off at either station and take a later train back to their originating station. All trains depart Lahaska Station 20 minutes past the hour. Last train of the day ends in New Hope. In addition to the regular New Hope-Lahaska trains, the NH&I also has several special events throughout the year, including rare-mileage 35-mile round trip Spring Scenery and Fall Foliage trains to Warminster, PA.

From April through December, motive power is usually 2-8-0 #40 (ex Cliffside Railroad, exx-Lancaster and Chester Railway), with EMD GP30 #2198 (ex-CR, exx-PC, nee-PRR) as backup. During the winter months (January, February, and March) #40 normally receives her annual tune-up, which leaves one of the diesels to resume passenger operations. In addition to passenger excursions, the NH&I moves freight to and from the interchange with CSX at Ivyland, PA. That is handled by the railroad's GE C30-7 #7087 (ex-CSX, nee-SBD). In addition to #7087, the railroad also owns a Union Pacific C30-7 (still in UP livery) #531.

The NH&I has setup a Volunteer group, which handles restoration on steam locomotives and rolling stock. For more information, see the above link to the railroad's website.
