Summary

Official Crest of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, 1898

The shields depicting a castle represent Barnstaple (taken from the coat of Arms) and the other, depicting a deer, was intended to represent the wild red deer of Exmoor.

The crest originally appeared (in colour) on the lower part of several doors on each carriage, however they were discontinued as carriages were repainted, due to the additional cost involved.
